The riper ones just glow on the infrared scanner!Rafal Gardner, PDA entry (Adamante Limes)

Rafal Gardner is an engineer. The player finds his PDA on Adamante Limes. His body is above it, dead, still in one piece, and locked in a cage. Egg-shaped objects sit around the cage.

Speaking as an engineer, he reports high-heat processes inside the cocoons. The riper ones glow on an infrared scanner. The team assumes the cocoons are organic incubators: eleven at the site, two already cold, and those two have probably hatched. He packed the readings, tissue, and mucus samples for transport per protocol, and does not know when the shipment will leave.

Most of his hours go to specimen 187B, where the processes are more interesting. A DNA test of 187A and 187B shows a 98% match, which shocks him, because the two structures are completely different. 187B is like a cradle holding a hologram. Since it went active, a steady hum around 100Hz has been audible, and up close it is maddening.

Specimen GX110187A-ALIM (Cocoons) - Part 2 23/01/2049As an engineer, I can say this. Readings show high-heat processes inside them. The riper ones just glow on the infrared scanner! We assume these cocoons are organic incubators. Eleven at this location, two of them already cold. Those have probably hatched. All the readings, tissue, and mucus samples are packed for transport per protocol. If only we knew when the shipment will be. That's all on the cocoons. Most of my work hours go to watching specimen 187B. Far more interesting processes run there. The 187A and 187B DNA test shows a 98% match. That is a real shock. We are talking about two completely different structures. 187B is like a cradle that holds a hologram. Since it went active, a steady hum around 100Hz. Up close it's fucking annoying.

Trivia

  • The egg-shaped objects around the cage recall the eggs in Alien (1979).
  • The specimen label Cocoons also points at Cocoon (1985), not only at Alien. In that film, alien cocoons are the thing being kept and studied.
