spoilerCampbell is first seen arriving on Mars City from a Phantom Dropship, wielding a large briefcase while chaperoning Counselor Swann. Swann, expressing annoyance about his expedition to mars due to Dr. Malcolm Betruger, ensures that the elderly doctor shall meet up to his own demands. Campbell concurs and adds to Swann's point that if that is not the case, he will take more drastic action on Swann's behalf.
Campbell is later seen in a conference room in Mars City, standing next to Swann who engages in a heated discussion with Betruger in regards to the recent events that has been happening on Mars. Staying completely silent on the matter, Campbell looks outside the windowed wall and notices the marine transferee he has seen earlier on the Dropship, standing in the Administration Hall. After Swann and Betruger end their conversation Swann and Campbell leave the room to make their way to the Delta Labs.
Shortly after the invasion, Campbell is seen in the Administration Complex, standing next to Swann, who engages in another argument with Betruger through a telecam about the predicament they are in. Realizing that Betruger is the initiator of the invasion, Swann turns off the telecam and turns towards Campbell, who opens up his briefcase to unleash the BFG9000 uttering the words "Plan B".
Swann's plan is later revealed as shutting off all communications on Mars to Earth to stop the invasion from spreading , having Campbell safely escort him throughout the base by fighting off demons with his weapon and to mitigate the invasion. He is seen helping Swann locate the transmission card from the fallen Bravo Team in Enpro Plant, and sabotaging the main communication relay in the Communications Room before heading off to the Delta Complex.
Eventually, both Swann and Campbell are gettting ambushed by Sergeant Thomas Kelly, who has been possessed by the demons. Swann is critically injured as a result, forcing Campbell to leave him behind and hunt down the former sergeant by himself. Campbell later gets overwhelmed by Kelly. Mortally wounded, the last thing Campbell does is to ask the approaching Marine to stop Sarge and warns him that he has acquired his BFG9000. Then he dies.

Trivia
*Shortly before the player fights the Vagary boss in Alpha Labs Sector 4, Campbell can be seen firing a BFG shot at a bunch of Trites surrounding him and Swann, before leaving through a nearby elevator.
*In Alpha Labs - Sector 1, right after you meet with George Krietman, Swann and Cambbell can be seen running at very close range through a windowed corridor. If the player is fast enough and ignores all the Maggots in that area, he can actually catch up with them enough to shoot them from a distance, obtaining Campbell's BFG very early on in the game.
*Campbell's BFG9000 will end up in the player's possession after defeating Sabaoth.
