Don Ivan is an experienced, highly capable Marine Squad Leader stationed on Mercury. He commands several missions of a secret operation — including Operation Oversight.
He falls to the rising demonic threat on The Solar Railway. From his armour the player can extract a Praetor Token and recover the mission report to Director William Banks: a successful extraction to Petipa that also mentions Marcus Caseon and Tim Willits— the unofficial extra passenger refused by Petipa security.
As commanding officer he was responsible for concealing a classified document with operational details in case of incapacitation — a hint that a secret cache of mission files may lie near the fallen marine.

Operation Oversight report (to Director William Banks)The 23rd mission of Operation Oversight Phase 2 was completed on 10/11/2141. Personnel were handed over to security at Petipa. 2 techs from Northern Rail, 2 Prokofiew scientists, 3 Copland miners, 1 doctor (+1) from Rachmaninoff, and 2 Barney maintenance. We reached SolarRail at Barney Cross Service Station, then took a SolarJet to Petipa. Total: 10 listed plus one extra person. The extra was Tim Willits, Dr Caseon's assistant. We rested, got briefed, and continued north through the Catullus Region. As predicted, Petipa security refused the assistant. The AI rejected Mr Caseon's chaotic claims of uncertain family relations. Tim seemed lost. Going north & a Mars transfer application are his options. He's bright & they're hiring. We'll escort him back.
Background
Outside the Mercury timeline, Donald Ivan Punchatz (1936–2009) was a celebrated science-fiction and fantasy illustrator. In 1993 id Software hired him for the Doom package art and logo — later ranked among the best game box art of all time. When id needed character models for Doom and Doom II, he recommended his son Gregor Punchatz for the job.
The Mercury Rising marine is a respectful homage — fan fiction, not a biography of the artist.
